Plants vs Zombies 2 – Game review
The original Plants Vs Zombies title was a huge hit thanks to the new and exciting ideas that it brought to the table. Plants Vs Zombies 2 brings the same original idea yet it somehow manages to take it to a whole new level with multiple new settings, a wide range of new enemies and so on.
Plants Vs Zombies 2 brings a much more polished visual experience when compared to its predecessor, so pea shooters, flowers as well as zombies are much more detail and they simply look stunning. While the backgrounds in the first title were static and not that appealing, things have changed a lot with the second entry in the series, as now you are able to check out some hand drawn beauties that will simply amaze you at all times. The large amount of detail that went into the creation of each map is astonishing and it’s safe to say that everything from lawnmowers to zombies is cleverly animated. Moreover, the character models are stunning as well, so everything is combined into a beautiful visual package that simply entices you to play more, no matter the device you choose to play on.
The story in Plants Vs Zombies 2 is the only thing that doesn’t impress, as you will follow Crazy Dave once more as he goes back in time. You will have the ability to play multiple sets of maps set in worlds such as Ancient Egypt, Wild, West, Pirate Seas, the Future or Dark Ages. But not only the theme gets changed here, some new mechanics are also added after a certain set of levels, so even if you finished a world there’s still a lot more to discover as you play.
There are also numerous new plant types that you can use, such as the Coconut Cannon, the Chili bean or the punching Bonk Choy. However, the zombie army has also received some new, funny and very interesting additions in the form of the Chicken Wrangler Zombie, the Barrel Roller Zombie and multiple others that will simply make the whole experience a lot more fun and diverse.
Plants Vs Zombies 2’s gameplay is quite similar to the first title, even the interface remains pretty much the same. You place sunflowers, wait until they provide you with some sun, catch it then use it to place some offensive plants. There are 5 rows of plants, each one followed by a lawnmower, and if the zombies reach the lawnmower, then you will have no protection. The next time they will be able to pass through without a problem, something that will end the game. The challenge in this game comes from the fact that you successfully need to balance the resource generation by adding multiple sunflowers, while also adding as many defenses as possible to protect them. Remember that space is limited so you need to make those decisions wisely. Zombies aren’t smart, but they will attack in large numbers, which means that you have to be prepared at all times. Upgrading your defenses is a must if you want to survive against your enemies.
The game also brings interesting world maps, which allow gamers to replay the main campaign on and on even after they complete it. Moreover, there is even a daily challenge mode that fans can play in order to gain some useful prizes.
Furthermore, there are numerous mini-game types of levels which can be used to gain bonuses as well. These mini-games are varied and really fun, ranging from simple matching games to endless combat experiences. Replayability is at home here, just like pretty much the whole rest of the game.
Plants Vs Zombies 2 is a free to play game, which means that there’s some content behind a paywall. In this particular case, you need to pay for a few plants from the first game, like the Jalapeno and Snow Pea, as well as some level packages that were newly added to the game. Other than that, the game is truly free to play, which is really impressive.
You do gather coins as you play, and these can be used for power-ups that allow you to gain a certain advantage in front of the zombie attacks.
In conclusion, Plants Vs Zombies 2 is one of the best casual games of all time, as it brings all the necessary things you need to have a great time. The great tower defense experience is back, largely improved, the visuals are simply stunning so there are lots of reasons why you should give this game a try. You won’t find a better tower defense experience than the once portrayed in Plants Vs Zombies 2, so we recommend that you give it a try, as you can’t find a better way to spend your casual gaming time other than playing this beautiful game.
